King of the Airstrip
Success for the First Annual "King of the Airstrip"!
"King of the Airstrip" presented by A.L.P.A. Equipment, drew crowds of 500 or more, to celebrate this exciting winter event and cheer on snowmobile racers, as they competed in the name of charity! The Saturday February 1st event had perfect weather conditions and the racing strip was in pristine condition. The Snowmobile drag races took place on the airstrip behind ALPA Equipment, Maugerville, NB. This exciting fundraiser was the brainchild of Gerry Curtis of ALPA Equipment and Tony McCoy of Torque Motorsports. Crowned "King of the Strip" was Kyle Tucker of Fredericton and the "King Naturally Aspirated" was Clint Edmondson of Fredericton.
Organizer Gerry Curtis called the event, a fundraiser for Easter Seals New Brunswick, an awesome success and looks forward to making it a yearly event! "Everybody spoke very highly of the race," Curtis said Saturday evening. "We had a very enthusiastic bunch of racers in 9 divisions, with 80 entrants in total. It was a huge success for such a worthy cause!"
Julia Latham, Executive Director with ESNB said the day raised just over $5000.00 dollars; from race registrations, BBQ and proceeds from the day. Latham said "The funds will be used to help supply equipment like wheelchairs, lifts and other specialized items to people with disabilities in all over New Brunswick." This first time event went off very well and the public seemed to really enjoy all the excitement. Brandon Liston Ambassador Emeritus with ESNB was thrilled by the races and excited to receive a specialty ALPA Equipment jacket. Brandon thanks all who came out to support the cause "Not only did you enjoy an exciting day of racing, but you can be proud that you helped kids like me across New Brunswick" he said with a cheer!
Several local businesses donated time, volunteers and equipment to ensure the fundraiser was a success, including ALPA Equipment, Torque Motorsports and Kitchen Helper. Food supplies were given at a discount or donated by Walmart, Mulder Meats, Cosco and Kitchen Helper. "A huge 'Thank You' goes out to all the volunteers, who worked tirelessly to make this event a great success! Without their generosity and hard work, fundraisers like this would not be possible!" said Tony McCoy of Torque Motorsports "We are planning to run the event again next year and after our follow-up meeting, we have a date, February 7th 2015!"
